π Team #REKT Gears Up for California Team Championships 2024! π²
Welcome, fellow Warhammer 40k enthusiasts! Today, we highlight the journey of Team #REKT, a pillar of the Southern California gaming community, and winners of the 2023 Cali Team Champs Teamβs Choice / Exemplars of the Hobby award.
π°οΈ #REKT History and Hobby Contributions π‘οΈ
Formed the before times of 7th edition (about 2015 or so), nowadays #REKT is more of a gaming club than a team and is comprised primarily of a bunch of 40k dads. Centered in and around the Pasadena area, #REKT is more concerned with tailgating before the GT with a cooler full of beers than winning games. As a bunch of old-farts (and a few young toots too), #REKT has been ingrained in the SoCal 40k scene for almost a decade now, from running local RTTs back at the old Game Empire in Pasadena, to helping pioneer "professional" 40k judges, to running some of the longest running 40k GTs in So Cal (Hammer of Wrath), to hosting TFG Radio (allegedly the only "all catholic" 40k Podcast), to organizing a 40k league that has been around and kicking for over 7 years (and that has a huge pool of active 40k players).
π¨ The Art of the Hobby:
#REKT's team ethos has evolved over time, but has coalesced around three core pillars of sportsmanship, community, and hobby parity (i.e. the hobby is just as important as the competitive aspect of the game). #REKT club members know they are not the best players in the room ("they used to be contenders!"), so the team strives to win hobby related prizes, Rennaissance person, and to just have good games and grow the community (they also enjoy the time away from the kids!).
Tailgating Tradition π»π
But, as far as many are concerned, the most important contribution that #REKT has given to the SoCal 40k scene is the Bloody Mary, breakfast tailgate before the CTC. Be on the look out for the 3rd annual one before this year's CTC!
